Waterfall City is a R21 billion-rand city, which can be described as the biggest property development in South African History. It sits on 2200ha which equates to 22 million square metres. It is located just off Allandale Road. The iconic Mall of Africa was completed in April 2016 and consists of 300 local and international shops, and 25 restaurants with 120 000m² under roof. The Anchor tenants are Cotton On, Game and Woolworths. This a very attractive feature for staff who work and play within the City. There are also several schools and a Netcare Hospital in the area. The first commercial development within Waterfall City was Maxwell Office Park, which is where Attacq, the major developer, is still based today. Waterfall City seems to attract pharmaceutical companies, namely Novartis, Allergan, and Cipla. Major law firms have also decided to develop their head offices in Waterfall City - the first being the Incredible PWC building and more recently, Deloitte’s Head Office. There is 17km of walking trails, a few bird hides, places to rest and drinking fountains, that can be found on 300ha of green belts located within Waterfall City. This development will eventually house an estimated 35 000 to 40 000 people and accommodate commercial and office space for 60 000 people. Although Cell C falls within the Woodmead area, it is part of Waterfall City. Currently there is a City Lodge in Waterfall City which is located close to The Mall of Africa. Under construction presently is a 5- Star Hotel which promises to be opulence at its best.
